february poems
these are the poems that I wrote last month. it was a very special month in my life. i had a lot to uncover. i hope you'll enjoy
we look out from the kitchen into the half-courtyard menacing thunderclouds moved to the background on a corner of the house is a square of enlightened yellow plaster he exclaims the sun! I pour dish soap on a metal sponge if I squeeze a little harder my palm tickles the mug got warm under the hot water or in the sun? you can no longer make out separate clouds the whole sky is covered I half-circle along the street step around puddles and construction splodges an acquaintance passes by and doesn’t recognize me a lot of people haven’t been recognizing me lately I answer it’s because I was on holiday but can you recognize a raindrop if it falls on your head twice? 21.02.2026
if I were to use the familiar metaphor of speech as water then my words are water-falling from a high cliff. heavy splashes fly to the shore, the drops are quickly absorbed into the soil. but the words stream further and fall into a pure mountain lake. it is no longer possible to tell them apart among the light blue shades on the surface and the deep blue below. sometimes you think – maybe it’s them? but it is always either a sun glare, or a fish swimming by. maybe it’s them 16.02.2026
february wind breaks snowflakes against the wooden skin something pricks at my left side a snow coat lies on the coal-black back of the dog I feel hot we drink beer until the bar closes. he asks me if I heard that Israel used chemical weapons in Gaza I answer that I haven’t heard it yet and grip his gaze to keep myself from scratching red spots on my elbows we arrive at a concert a guy in a mask raps about genocide I do not see his eyes and my friends stand behind me there is nothing to grip I throw on a sweater a coat I walk outside and light a cigarette the smoke dissipates quickly carried by the wind like the bodies of thousands of Palestinians when I walk along the tram lines at night the water is still but when I take off the white coat and scratch my arms flakes of dead skin fall onto the water ripples spread across its entire surface 16.02.2026
